A proposal to locate a beauty salon in the small strip of stores on the 1500 block of New Jersey Avenue, N.W. will be on the agenda for the ANC 5C meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2006. Specifically, Ms. Amsale Teklu is renting 1543 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. (a former retail furniture store) that she plans to convert into a beauty salon. In order to accomplish this goal, Ms. Teklu has applied for a “special exception” before the Office of Zoning’s Board of Zoning Adjustment, because this is not a use that can be accomplished as a “matter of right” in an R-4 district. Ms. Teklu will make a presentation of her plans at this meeting because the BZA hearing concerning her request for special relief is scheduled for March 7, 2006.
