Blogjam @ DC9

Right now I am multitasking so bear with me as I blog, do laundry and cook curry all at the same time. Okay, maybe not as I just spilled curry on open gas flame….

Tonight was Blogjam, a reading by queer bloggers. I attended in support of Jimbo and as you can tell, took pictures. The most famous of the bloggers, as far as I know, was Andrew Sullivan (below). He was not what I expected, I expected DC dweeb. I was also expecting Wonkette, as I remember she was on the line up, but with the theme of gay & male bloggers she really wouldn’t have fit, despite her great fame.

The event went well I think, though I did leave just as the dance music began.

Mr. Sullivan spoke about what he writes about best, politics. His reading of the night was on Bush’s push to add an amendment to the constitution banning same sex marriage and the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. Dogpoet and Crisafer read off poetry, doing what poetry is supposed to do best, describing greatly, so briefly. Thankfully, Geekslut was not as bad as I thought he’d be, as I could only deal with reading two of his blog entries. Actually I found it refreshing that he was (if I got him right) was anti-crystal meth. ‘Cause really, crystal meth is so wrong, in so many ways.

  1. Thanks for coming! I tried to look for you and introduce you to Homer, but I couldn’t find you! Glad you waited thru the delays. It was fun. – Jimbo

  2. Hello.
Well, I went to the bar (DC9) about 7:30 Sunday evening thinking I’d hang out until the event began but it was closed. So, as I stood there with my face against the door an employee came up from behind and said ‘we won’t be opening for another 45 minutes or so’. What was I to do for that amount of time so I returned home (Mount unPleasant). I was disappointed but didn’t care much later. Andrew Sullivan is a turn off but I don’t know
what you mean about expecting him to be ‘DC dweeb’??
    Take care – OQUAGA

  3. DC Dweeb = Policy Wonk in a geeky way
DC Dweeb (2)= Suit & tie

Yeah I arrived @ 7pm, because one of the earlier adverts had 7pm and that what was in my Palm. Well I headed back home and started making curry. Turned off curry an hour later, went back to DC9. Waited and had a rum & coke. After Geekslut, left because non-partner dancing and crowds don’t do it for me. Now I’ll deal with a crowd if there is some serious ballroom or lindy hopping involved, otherwise I bolt.

  4. Are you attracted to DWEEBS? Just curious – OQUGA
(I can deal with crowds but not disorganization and schedule dysfunction – it was a school night for me after all)

  5. Wha?
Did I mention any attraction? But if you must know I have this weird thing for nice straight clean cut German (von Deutschland) Catholic boys with glasses and graduate degrees, that and tall handsome British/French men who know how to lead a swing out.

  6. M: you need to accept your lust for dweebs. It is not a crime. In fact, it’s called ‘adorkable’ – the lust for dorks, geeks or nerds. It’s OK, they can be hot (when they bathe). Open your mind to the hotness of dweebs. – Jimbo

  7. Last weekend I went to a party and met a tragically nerdy man with enchanting eyes. Sadly, the nerdness was more than I could bear. Besides I had the choice of talking to an extremly unavailable but absolutely charming British man with an Oxford accent. I chose Britboy. I’ll ask friends later about nerd boy, but his inner person does not seem attractive.
