Somthing must be in the air because there are now two pop ups on New jersey Avenue NW. The newist is at 1651 New Jersey Avenue NW. It doesn't stick out as badly as the one on the 1700 block of NJ Ave.
I noticed that the facade of the property was stripped off months ago and they seemed to be taking their sweet time doing whatever it was that they were planning to do.
I haven't bothered looking at the permits for this, but if anyone wants to the address is 1651 NJ Ave NW. It was bought 2 years ago for $245K. According to the permit office, regarding the structural permit it had this to say:
Structural Review Approved . 1.STATE FULLY THE SCOPE OF WORK. DRAWINGS SHOW ADDITION OF A FULL FLOOR AND UNDERPINNING 2.PROVIDE YOUR DESIGN CRETERIA ZONING ANALYSIS AND CURRENT CODES COMPLIANCE 3.PROVIDE THE EXISTNG, DEMO AREAS AND PROPOSED PLANS 4.PROVIDE THE STRUCTURAL DETAIL SECTION OF ROOF / TERRACE AND ATTACHMENT 5.PROVIDE THE LONGITUDINAL AND CROSS SECTIONS THROUGH WHOLE BLDG , SHOWING PENTHOUSE , TERRACE , FOUNDATION FOOTINGS, FLOOR TO CEILING HEIGHTS BEFORE AND AFTER UNDERPINNING. UNDERPINNING SEQUENCE AND SCHEDULE NOTES S0.1 6.PROVIDE NEW DECK FRAMING DETAILS. A1.1 7.PROVIDE DETAIL SECTION OF TEMPERED GLASS AND SOLAR SCREEN ATTACHMENT TO PARAPET WALLS. A1.1, A1.2 A3.1 8.NO WINDOW OPENING ON PARTYWALL OF PENTHOUSE. A1.2 9.CLEAR PUBLIC SPACE FOR BAY WINDOW PROJECTION , S0.1 10.SPECIFY THE TYPE OF INSULATIONS IN WALLS AND ROOF STRUCTURE. 11.ATTACH COPIES OF REGISTERED NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO ADJOINING NEIGHBORS FOR CONSTRUCTION ALONG PARTY WALLS, TOGETHER WITH POST OFFICE RECEIPTS.
Anyway, do take note that it doesn't stick out as badly when taking into account the Child Development Center on the corner of NJ and R and the newer condos to the south, which both tower higher than the pop up. I guess a pop up is possibly more ugly when it is the tallest structure on the block.
